Symmetry Collection, Tabletops

对称系列

Symmetry marks Xiong’s introduction to tableware with a porcelain cup, plate, and bowl. Pushing against porcelain’s natural imperfections, the collection aims to achieve perfect symmetry and form. Painted with simple dots, lines, or circles along the groove at the exact center of each piece, Xiong attempts perfection with a material that doesn’t always cooperate. Symmetry also nods to the geometric shapes in Xiong’s furniture with complementary squares and circles sculpted into each vessel. Xiong traveled to Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of the world, to manufacture her collection with the masters. Jingdezhen porcelain gets heated at higher temperatures, causing 6 out of every 10 pieces to break or explode in the kiln. Because of this, Jingdezhen porcelain is rarely exported or produced in large batches. Symmetry is one of the few Jingdezhen porcelain collections available outside of China with modern interpretations of the town’s traditional techniques.
